Living Jazz Children's Program

Offered at no cost to Glenview, the Living Jazz Children's Program (LJCP) provides music education for second and third classes. It has two complementary components (vocal and rhythm) that teach music through the lens of diverse cultural traditions and history. The choral component teaches music fundamentals, simple body percussion and performance skills for large group ensemble singing, along with the historical and cultural context of the repertoire as it relates to the civil rights movement, Dr. King and its other leaders. The rhythm component teaches complex poly-rhythms from the African Diaspora, providing a strong rhythmic foundation while continuing to highlight cultural history and cultural pride. LJCP provides weekly lessons throughout the entire school year culminating in high profile performances and in-school assemblies. Learn more at www.livingjazz.org/childrens-project
